Various programmes organised for students and faculty

As part of academic and extracurricular activities, educational institutions and other organisations conducted various programmes for the students, teaching and non-teaching staff.
SAS:NU: School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (SAS:NU) Medziphema Campus held its 29th parting social on June 13 at the Multi-Purpose Hall with minister, Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along as special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Along urged the students to play a vital role in educating the farmers and to uplift the status of agriculture in the country. He stressed on the issue of lack of governments jobs in the state and encouraged the students to come up with innovative ideas in the agriculture sector for self-employment and also to employ others.
Though Nagaland may not be able to compete in terms of huge production of agricultural crops with the rest of India and the world, Along said the state possess the resources to produce good quality, premium crops of high value. Delivering a speech, dean SAS:NU, professor L Daiho encouraged the students to take responsibility as agriculture graduates to work towards food production and productivity and help the state to attain food security.
DGC: One day state level workshop under the theme, “National Higher Education Qualification Framework under NEP-2020 and Four-Year Undergraduate Programme under Nagaland University” was organised by the Department of Commerce and IQAC, Dimapur Government College (DGC) on June 16 at the Seminar Hall, DGC.
In the first session, resource person, professor and head, department of commerce, Nagaland University, Dr. Gautam Patikar spoke on “National Higher Education Qualification Framework under NEP-2020.” Stating that the NEP-2020 is rightly trying to create a modern education system with a blend of ancient learning and values, he highlighted the reasons for the necessary change in the education system as well as on the prime aims of NEP-2020.
The second session on the theme, “Four Year Undergraduate Programme under Nagaland University” was taken up by P K Deka and Dr. Ratan Kaurinta as resource persons. The structure of the FYUP under NU with the papers along with associated credits were displayed as well as several proposed papers which may be subject to change were highlighted by the resource persons. The session ended with the resource persons reiterating that the approach was on “skill development with multiple entry and exit points.”
The workshop saw 55 participants, with the participation of 13 Commerce Colleges from all over the state.
GMS Bayavü: With the view to keep the students and staff healthy and sensitise on healthy living, the Government Middle School (GMS) Bayavü Kohima in collaboration with Ayush Health and Wellness Centre Bayavü Kohima conducted a medical camp on June 16 at the school campus. On the occasion, Medical Officer (AYUSH), Dr Noksangrenla Jamir delivered a talk to the school children about diarrhoea, its prevention and other health and hygiene practices. As part of the Beti Bacho Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme, Dr Noksangrenla took a special session for the girl children sensitising about menstruation cycle, menstrual myth, common symptoms during period, how to maintain hygiene and food to eat during menstruation.
The programme was followed by health check-up on students, teachers and distribution of free medicines. Meanwhile about 60 students were also immunised on the occasion.
KCK: Minister, higher education and tourism, Temjen Imna Along inaugurated the UGC-Sponsored Indoor Stadium of Kohima College, Kohima (KCK) on June 16. In his speech, Along thanked the UGC for allowing Kohima College to build an infrastructure that would benefit the young “blue-coated” students of Kohima College. He pointed out that Kohima College has emerged in recent years to be one of the centres of educational excellence in Nagaland with some of the best, hard-working teaching faculty. Along also advised the students to learn and work for the prosperity of the people of Nagaland and to aim to inspire.
MHSS: Modern Higher Secondary School organised the final round of debate competition on the topic, “Is G-20 Focusing on its motto, ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’” on June 16 with Kaimangchoba as the moderator. The participants debated on various issues highlighting on the motto, while the motion counted on points like green revolution, sustainable development, the opposition counter attacked with issues like global warming, economic inequality. Earlier, on June 15, the school organised a motivational talk on “How to become a Topper” by Chinia Kayina (Rank 17th, HSLC 2023).
IC: Immanuel College NSS members participated in “ National Integration Camp, 2023, organised by Regional Directorate of NSS, (NER) Guwahati and government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and held on June 9-15 at The Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat.
SHSS: A two- day “spiritual retreat” under the theme, “Rooted and Established in Love” (Ephesians 3:17) was organised by Straightway Higher Secondary School on June 16-17 at the School Campus with youth mentor, MTBA, Chubawapang, staff worker UESI, Limasangla, CED, Khensa, Arenchila, CED Mokokchung compound, Yatetla, and CED Artang, Ayala as the resource persons.
MGMHSS: MGM Higher Secondary School organised a science exhibition on June 14 at the school premises, wherein 17 students forming four groups from classes 3 to 12 showcased their science models.
GHSS Pungro: As a part of “Janbhagidari”, Government Higher Secondary School Pungro organized an essay writing competition on the topic “Importance & Relevance of G20 in Contemporary Politics with special reference to India’s Presidency” on June 14 at the school.
