Over 300 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from all the eight Northeastern states took part in the Northeast National NSS festival held at St Joseph’s College, Jakhama from June 13-17.
The festival was sanctioned by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Regional Directorate of NER NSS, Guwahati.
The objective of the festival was to instill the value of good ethics, behaviours, group living and dignity of labour and to inculcate the value of social harmony and national integration as well as to develop the quality leadership, to educate on opportunities available for career prospects and employability and different social and youth related issues.
In order to meet the objectives, activities such as yoga and physical exercise, self-defense for girls and voluntary service were conducted. Cultural presentations by eminent local artistes and volunteers of the respective states were also conducted.
Visit to local villages and places of tourist importance like Khonoma, Kohima War Cemetery while voluntary cleanliness service at Kisama Heritage Village were also organised.
Academic sessions on youth related issues on topics such as yoga self-defense, youth and substance abuse, introduction to mission life, nature cure, personality development, life skills, youth and peace development in Northeast were discussed.
Director, Youth Resource and Sports, Kethosituo Sekhose was the special guest, while messages were delivered by PC, Nagaland University, Prof Bendang Ao and NER, NSS,Guwahati, youth officer, Deori.
