NSRLM organises alumni meet for DDU-GKY

With the aim of reaching out to the trained and placed candidates of Deen-Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) organised an alumni meet for DDU-GKY trained candidates in Chennai and Bangaluru on June 9 and June 13 respectively.
A press release by NSRLM informed that the team was led by joint secretary RD and Mission Director, NSRLM, Imtimenla, who also delivered key note address in both the events.
The keynote speaker stated that Nagaland has partnered with 15 Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) offering training in more than seven sectors for the DDU-GKY, a nationwide placement-linked skill training program funded by the Ministry of Rural Development, government of India.
Imtimenla stated that alumni meet was an important component of the scheme where the meet provides healthy ground for experience sharing by the working youths about the challenges and opportunities in private industries.
She congratulated the rural youths for coming out of their homes to stand on their own and to support their families. Citing the risks and security concerns raised by parents back home, Imtimenla urged all the participants to stay in touch with the students and fellowship communities wherever they are working.
Further, she encouraged the gathering to spread the message that employment problem was only for those who are unwilling to work or move out of the comfort of their homes.
Naga Student’s Union (NSU) presidents, expressed their appreciations towards NSRLM, DDU-GKY for opening doors to the rural Naga youths and upskilling them. In their speeches, the presidents advised the alumni to respect the culture and adapt with their working environment to excel. They also encouraged the alumni to register in their respective unions so that any issues faced by the Naga youths can be addressed by the unions.
Sharing their experience, the alumni of DDU GKY stated that the program has enabled them to become contributors in the family, have opened new avenues to professionally grow and think beyond opportunities in Nagaland.
It may be noted that since the inception of DDU-GKY in Nagaland during FY 2018-19, more than 6000 rural youths have been trained and around 3500 candidates have been given job placements in different parts of the country. At Alumni Meet, Chennai around 55 alumni attended the meet whereas at Alumni Bengaluru around 99 attended besides invitees and officials.
The programmes were graced by Pastor, NCF for Chennai chapter, Wapangtoshi Longkumer, and Pastor, NCF for Bengaluru Chapter, Nikato Yepto. Other special invitees and speakers included NSU of Chennai and Bengaluru, Eastern Naga Student’s Union, Bengaluru and Management team of Royal Orchid Hotel, Bengaluru. The programme was chaired by SPM Skills, Visakono and vote of thanks was delivered by COO-Skills, Menuoneituo Chadi.
