Konyak Heritage Village foundation stone unveiled

Advisor for DUDA, LM & CP and NIDC Thongwang Konyak on Saturday unveiled the foundation stone of Konyak Heritage Village laid by Konyak Students Union (KSU) at Abang.
In his address, Thongwang said various developmental projects could not be completed on time due to “unstable government” in the state.
Thongwang also lauded the student body for initiating the project and Leangha village for donating the land. He also discouraged the practise of expecting donations from chief guest saying that people should focus more on the messages than money. The chief guest also donated Rs. 10 lakh towards development of the heritage village.
Deputy Commissioner Mon, W. Honje Konyak also lauded the student community for taking the initiative to establish the heritage village to promote and treasure the rich culture and traditions of the Konyaks.  He said that the proposed location for the heritage village was a conserved land under the forest department to protect the water source which was supplied to Mon town.
The DC appealed to all the Konyak NGOs, legislatures and all concerned to extend their cooperation and support to find ways and means for development of the village. He added that responsibility of developing the project lay with the entire Konyak community.
Loung Anghpa of Leangha village said that the land was donated free of cost for the community development of the Konyaks and urged the Konyak leaders not the leave the project half done or utilize it for personal benefit. He informed that his village was ever ready to donate more land if needed for the project.
Presidents of KSU, KU and KNSK also spoke at the function. Earlier the foundation stone was dedicated by Pastor KBCM Nahngom. The function was chaired by T.M. Wapa, speaker KSU.
