WSH dismayed over delay in road work from 4th Mile to Niuland

Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has expressed dismay over delay in the ongoing road construction from 4th Mile to Niuland.
WSH through its media cell said with the public frustration and disappointment rising over the ongoing work on 21.89-km road that had not been completed despite the passage of the allotted time frame, the hoho held a joint meeting with the PWD executive engineer, administration, contractor’s representative, firm representatives and Ato area GBs at Hozukhe Council Hall on Thursday.
WSH said the executive engineer gave a briefing on the project’s precise specification during the meeting and disclosed that although the contractor had been granted an extension of time (EoT) and a bill amounting to Rs 16 crore out of Rs 24.38 crore had already been released, the construction was not progressing as expected.
Further, the EE said that the PWD chief engineer’s office would no longer accept EoT and insisted that the work should be finished by the end of August this year, as per the EoT.
WSH said the Ato area GBs also expressed concern at the poor quality of work and its slow pace. They claimed that dust pollution caused by the incomplete work for such a long period was causing health problems for the people of the area.
WSH lamented that despite providing all cooperation to the contractor in an effort to complete the project as soon as possible and keeping in mind that the road belonged to all Nagas, the contractor only provided them empty promises, which ultimately led to losing their patience.
After much debate and discussion, it was decided that the company to which the contract was granted should execute the road project in accordance with the most recent EoT.
WSH also assigned Ato area GBs to oversee the construction work and report to its office regarding any subsequent lapses on the part of the firm in order to ensure that the quality and craftsmanship were not compromised.
It was decided that the hoho would ask the government for additional measures and would take its own course of action if the project was not completed on time.
WSH said the work had started in April last year but was not yet completed even after more than a year.
