Organisations flay alleged sexual assault on minor in Kohima

Several organisations including Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation Kohima Unit (ENWOKU), Yimkhiung Liberü Arihako Kohima (YLAK), Tikhir Union Kohima (TUK) and Yimkhiung Students’ Union Kohima (YSUK) have strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault on a minor girl at Tsiesema, Kohima on the evening of July 9, 2023.
ENWOKU: Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation Kohima (ENWOK) through its president K.Yanon Konyak and general secretary T.Rebecca Tikhir stated that assault of a minor was an “egregious violation of the most fundamental principles of decency, trust and protection that should be afforded to our children.”
Describing the act as “reprehensible crime”, the ENWOK stated that such acts not only inflicted unimaginable physical and psychological harm on the victim but also shattered the very fabric of “our community’s sense of security.”
ENWOK has called upon all responsible to all stand united and resolute against such act and refuse to tolerate any form of violence or exploitation, particularly when it victimised the most vulnerable members.
Further, ENWOK has called upon the community leaders and all right-thinking citizens to support the victim and cooperate with the law enforcing agencies in swiftly apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrator.
Extending sympathy to the victim’s family, the organisation has assured that they were not alone in their pursuit of justice. ENWOKU implored upon every member of the community to report any information that could help apprehend the culprit.
YLAK: Taking serious note of the alleged rape of a minor girl, the Yimkhiung Liberü Arihako Kohima (YLAK) through its president M Tansola and General Secretary Athsang lamented that the perpetrator was still roaming freely without being nabbed.
YLAK stated that the perpetrator after satisfying his “lustful act” had left the minor, who sustained multiple bruises and scratched marks all over her face and body.
According to YLAK, the child was rescued before another crime as there was possibility that the culprit “must have overheard the yelling of the grieving father who was frantically looking for his daughter at the vicinity of the crime scene.”
YLAK stated that the victim was rushed to NHAK under critical condition and was still under mental trauma. YLAK has appealed to the state machineries and all the right-thinking citizens to cooperate and help each other in bringing the culprit to book under the law.
TUK: Tikhir Union Kohima (TUK) through its president T.Tsuthong strongly condemned the incident and urged the law enforcing agency to leave no stone unturned to bring the accused to book and award the befitting punishment as per law so that such incident did not occur in the future.
The union also expressed shock over “such barbaric and inhuman act” and called upon everyone to condemn the act.
YSUK: Vehemently condemning the incident, Yimkhiung Students’ Union Kohima (YSUK) through its president Runshito Lims stated that such inhumane and barbaric crime had no place in the society.
The union has appealed to the investigating authorities to expedite the matter and deliver justice at the earliest.
Further, the union appealed to the law enforcing authorities to bring the culprit to book under appropriate sections of law and ward befitting punishment.
YSUK stated that letting the perpetrators of such crimes go unpunished was a threat to the society and urged all responsible to condemned the act.
