Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, in collaboration with Tzula (Dikhu) Green Zone Project Management Committee (TGZPMC) organised an awareness on “River Ranching” on July 18, where thousands of fingerlings were released into the Dikhu River (Green Zone).
According to a DIPR report, director of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Rongsenungba underscored the importance of preserving the environment as it was the most effective way to combat global warming.
He lauded Ungma and Longsa villages for their commendable initiatives and appreciated their vision in declaring the Dikhu River, within their respective jurisdictions, as a “Green Zone”, while highlighting its significance in mitigating climate change and global warming on a global scale.
Rongsenungba further urged the villages to enforce strict restrictions on unethical fishing and impose a total ban on fishing, especially during the three-month breeding season.
Short speeches were also delivered by the chairman of Ungma Village Council and Longsa Village Council. The programme began with invocation by MTLST president, Molodongba, TGZPMC chairman, Imliyanger delivered the welcome address, TGZPMC finance secretary, Temsutoshi Longkumer delivered the vote of thanks while USTM president, Sangkong said the benediction.
