Salary issue: NPCC urges govt to consider Village Guards’ demands

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has appealed to the state government to consider the demands (salary issue) of Nagaland Village Guards reasonably in the larger interest and safeguard the pride of the state as well as the guards.
In a statement, NPCC president S Supongmeren Jamir described the village guards as the pride of Nagaland and the first ones in line to uphold peace in the state, though there was little recognition of their tireless performance and dedication in the remotest areas along the international borders.
Claiming that they were the first line of security and ensured the state’s law and order, he said their services equipped with both modern and Naga traditional warrior warfare techniques were much appreciated and sought by the state government as equally as police services in times of security emergencies.
With no state function complete without their participation, Jamir insisted that the Nagaland Village Guards that started as a primary grassroots security force should not remain or be left as a permanent primary status.
“It would rather be the pride and honour of the state government if the Nagaland Village Guards are given the due and deserving upgraded status in their service as well as their basic facilities,” he stressed.
