CPO appeals for reopening of road between Jharnapani & Chathe bridge

Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) has called for reopening of the stretch of road between Jharnapani/New Chümoukedima and Chathe bridge (Patkai), which had remained closed for vehicles since July 4.
CPO president Zhato Kimho and general secretary Kevichatha Secü in a representation to the home commissioner said that the “otherwise unnecessary blockade” by the authority concerned had caused immense hardship and trauma for commuters who had to travel for over two hours via a longer, treacherous and narrow road from Mhainamtsi-Pimla, etc.
They alleged that the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) was not taking adequate steps to mitigate the blockade and nor was it in the process of installing proper safety measures along the stretch. They warned of taking legal action if the harassment of public continued.
They said the public had suffered for too long and their repeated complaints had all fallen on deaf ears.
Stating that they had been compelled to seek his assistance in lifting the blockade on behalf of the public, the duo requested the home commissioner to kindly consider lifting the blockade, claiming that it would benefit everyone.
It may be mentioned that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chümoukedima had ordered partial opening of Dimapur-Kohima Road stretch of NH-29 with effect from July 18 from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. for light passenger vehicles.
