Nagaland government in collaboration with World Resources Institute (WRI) India, launched Energy Access Explorer (EAE), a flagship geospatial platform for the state of Nagaland at a programme held at de Oriental Grand, here on Friday.
Speaking as the special guest, chairman, Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and advisor to chief minister, Abu Metha said data collection in a state like Nagaland would be challenging especially because of connectivity and accessibility shortages.
He expressed appreciation to WRI India for taking the initiative to cover Nagaland, as the Northeast region was often overlooked.
Metha informed that a committee comprising of experts and policymakers, had been set up under IDAN to work on a roadmap for economic progress in the state.
He added that the committee would present its findings to the CM who will then notify the PM.
Metha said EAE was going to play a vital role in the development of the state and would bring a new narrative for the state.
Metha said the State was looking forward to strengthening its partnership with WRI India so that there would be collective sharing of knowledge and move towards a collective aspiration.
Later, WRI India submitted a Letter of Intent (LoI) to IDAN chairman for future collaborations.
Director, Health & Family Welfare, Dr Chekroshüyi Tetseo, informed that there were 12 district hospitals, 33 Community Health Centres (CHCs), 144 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and 538 Sub centres (SC) out of which 301 have been upgraded as Health and wellness centres (HWC).
He said all of these healthcare facilities were equipped with refrigerators for storing essential medicines and vaccines and therefore require 24X7 power supply.
Apart from that district hospitals, have sophisticated equipment like ventilators, cardiac monitors, oxygen plant which requires adequate and regular power supply, Dr Tetseo added. A powerpoint presentation on introduction to EAE was made by program manager, WRI India, Akansha Saklani.
She also gave a live demonstration of EAE for the audience.
Earlier, executive director, energy program, WRI India, Bharath Jairaj delivered the welcome address. Role of energy for the development of industries was given commissioner & secretary, Kekhrievor Kevichüsa.
Energy for SDGs in Nagaland was presented by development commissioner, Planning & Transformation, R Ramakrishnan.
Importance of data in energy planning was shared by joint director, New & Renewable Energy, Er Inaho P Awomi.
Project director, Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre, Er Mhathung Kithan made the closing remarks.
