NH, NSF back proposed UNC rally

Naga Hoho (NH) and Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) have extended support to the proposed rally being organised by United Naga Council (UNC) in the Naga inhabited areas of Manipur on August 9, 2023 for resolving the “Indo-Naga” political issue based on the Framework Agreement.

NH: Naga Hoho through its president HK Zhimomi and general secretary K. Elu Ndang said UNC rally was an important moment for Nagas to reaffirm their historical and legitimate rights, and collectively strive to achieve the aspirations of the Nagas.

The hoho stated that Nagas for decades have endured immense challenges in their pursuit of political justice and recognition of their identity. NH said the Framework Agreement represented a ray of hope and a crucial step towards resolving the longstanding conflict. NH maintained that it was essential for the Centre to fulfil its promise and refrain from further delay or denial in the “Indo-Naga” process.

“We firmly believe that resolving the Naga conflict is not only crucial for the Nagas but also for the entire Northeast region,” NH stated. Further, the hoho maintained that a lasting peace in the Northeast would “undoubtedly” have positive geostrategic and economic implications “fostering stability and development for India and the Nagas, as well as the neighbouring nations in the region.”

Stating that Nagas do not interfere in any other issues, NH said Nagas would at the same time not allow any community/agency to “stand in the way of our pursuit for Rightful Political Rights.” NH, therefore, called upon all communities and neighbouring states “not to hinder or interfere with the political process that Nagas have rightfully claimed.”

Naha Hoho also urged the Government of India to honour its commitment to the Framework Agreement and engage in honest and productive dialogues with the Nagas to find a comprehensive and inclusive solution. It cautioned that denying or prolonging the “Indo-Naga” peace process would only perpetuate the suffering and uncertainty in the region.

NH further appealed to all stakeholders involved to respect the rights and dignity of the Nagas and to work together towards achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.

NSF: Endorsing the UNC rally, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) through its president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Süpuni Ng Philo asserted that no authority should make any attempt to curb the people from openly expressing their thoughts and desire.

NSF has, however, affirmed that if any resolution(s) was to be passed in the course of the movement, the federation would not be party to any resolution(s) that goes against its founding principles and which would prove counterproductive to the Naga people as a whole. NSF exuded optimism that the movement would usher in peace and normalcy to return in the state of Manipur.
