2189 AIDS cases in State

A total of 2189 AIDS cases and 420 AIDS-related deaths have been reported in the state since 1994 till May 2008. Out of the total 2189 AIDS cases, 1236 are males and 951 females. The statistics were revealed during the advocacy meeting, organized by Legislators Forum for AIDS, Nagaland, and UNAIDS in collaboration with Kuknalim Foundation Kohima, for members of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) held here Friday,  Of the deaths reported, 212 were males and 164 females. The statistics also revealed that the HIV prevalence rate in the state stood at 1.27 %, while the total blood screened was 171647, of which 6359 tested HIV positive and 164 cases were mother-baby pair NVP. About ART, it said a total of 3197 patients had been registered since 2004.
