Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Nagaland on Sunday said that the party unequivocally stands opposed to the Forest Conservation (Amendment) Act 2023. In a press note, AAP Nagaland said that though the Act “sounds and looks good but the intention is nefarious.”
The party said that the Act will have disastrous effect particularly on the people of Nagaland. “The land for centuries belonged to the people of Nagaland and it cannot be infringed by a “flowery” Act which particularly has its eyes on the lands of tribal population in border areas,” AAP said, and appealed to the conscience of the mass and not to support the said Act.
It may be noted that many including legal and environmental experts have flagged potentially damaging clauses in the bill that might endanger as much as 25% of India’s forest cover.
