Two female students- Mharhonyingi Odyuo and Daisy Kikon, received the first TCK Scholarship award for undergraduate studies initiated by TCK Foundation, on September 11 at Hotel Vivor, Kohima.
Mharhonyingi Odyuo pursuing civil engineering at NIT Chumoukedima and Daisy Kikon pursuing B.A Hons at DBS Kohima were selected for the award by selection panel consisted of OSD at CMO Nellayappan B, Senior Assistant Professor, department of History and Archaeology, Nagaland University Thungjano Kithan and Managing Trustee of the foundation.
Both candidates were selected after going through two rounds of selection based on essays and physical interview. They will receive Rs. 50000 for the period of four years of undergraduate studies.
It may be noted that the TCK Scholarship for undergraduate students was set up TCK Foundation, a social and educational trust, initiated by Abeni TCK and the family members of late TCK Lotha, former chief secretary and minister was launched in January this year.
A brief function was organised with Lokayukta Nagaland Banuo Z. Jamir and retired chief secretary as special guest. Banuo, in her address reminisced on her years of association with late T.C.K. Lotha, recalling him as calm and cool composure when dealing with stressful and difficult situations. She also mentioned that “late TCK never showed any airs of superiority nor a patronising attitude over the junior officers and was always open to ideas and suggestions”.
She remarked, “that the ideals of compassion, excellence and service truly communicate the heart and essence of the man” and encouraged the candidates to work hard and focus their aspirations beyond the state.
Senior pastor of Kohima Lotha Baptist Church Rev. Dr. Benry Lotha, invoked blessing prayer on the two awardees and special song by Yentsso Von.
It may be mentioned here that the TCK scholarship was an initiative of the TCK Foundation for the purpose of facilitating deserving candidates, who are unable to pursue higher education owing to financial constraints. More information will be available on www.tcklothafoundation.org.
