Dimapur District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) has allocated Rs 16 lakh as a special package to the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) from the MLA Common Pool.
DMC administrator W Manpai Phom told Nagaland Post that the approval was decided at the DPDB meeting for September held on Tuesday presided by Adviser Labour, Employment & Skill Development and Excise Moatoshi Longkumer.
He said out of the total sum, Rs 14 lakh was earmarked for acquisition of a waste collection truck and Rs 2 lakh designated for drainage clearance activities.
Phom also disclosed that initially funds had been intended for procuring a mechanised road sweeping vehicle (MRSV) but since DMC already has two MRSVs, DPDB decided to invest in a waste collection truck as a more pertinent addition to its fleet.
Phom also disclosed that the Board also approved the implementation of a rooster involving use of smaller vehicles for segregated waste collection multiple times a day to ensure that a clean Dimapur throughout the day.
Meanwhile, interacting with this reporter, Moatoshi Longkumer MLA disclosed the sanctioned amount pertained to 2022-2023 MLA Common Pool.
Annually, a sum of Rs 10 lakh is collected from each MLA’s Local Area Development Programme (LADP) fund for developmental and maintenance activities in the district.
Longkumer said Rs 1 lakh was allocated previously to the Revenue Officer for surveying clogged drainage and land encroachments.
On combating dengue outbreak of dengue in Dimapur, Longkumer informed that the meeting directed DC Dimapur and MS(H&FW) and staff, to visit schools and colleges and mobilise public for awareness on prevention and mitigation of dengue. He revealed that the board would organise a blood donation campaign to assist those in need, particularly in cases of dengue.
On the recent flood in Dimapur, the adviser said that the district administration, DMC, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and other authorities were doing their best efforts to mitigate the issue.
