State police seize contraband worth over Rs. 20 crore

Nagaland police have seized contraband worth over Rs. 20 crore and apprehended 157 individuals in connection with cases related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and registered 133 such cases over the last three months.

According to DIPR report, the seized contraband included Ganja (139.503kg), Opium (28.853kg), Heroin (5.164kg), Brown Sugar (1.145kg), Yaba Tablets (5,750 tablets), Other Synthetic Drugs (20,116 units) and Cough Syrup (2,446 bottles). Aligning with the government’s unwavering stance against drug abuse, the Nagaland police, in its effort to combat the proliferation of drugs within the state, have made significant strides in the past three months. Police’s relentless pursuit of a drug-free Nagaland has resulted in remarkable achievements.

Various units of Nagaland police are actively engaged in efforts and awareness campaigns aimed at reducing demand for narcotics within their respective units and the state at large.
Among those campaigns, the “Operation Good Samaritan” initiated by the DEF Kiphire unit, involves door-to-door visits, during which pamphlets related to the ‘Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan’ concept are distributed to every household.

In its commitment to maintaining a drug-free organization, Nagaland police have also taken steps to identify and provide rehabilitation and detoxification opportunities to personnel found to be drug abusers. However, a stern warning has been issued to personnel who abscond or remain absent from rehabilitation centres, indicating that disciplinary action will be taken against those who default on the rehabilitation process.
