Sensitization on substance use disorder and drug abuse

Terogunyu Chüpwe Union organised a one-day sensitization program on substance use disorder and drug abuse with Kripa foundation as the resource team on September 3 at the council hall, Terogvunyu new village.

DC Tseminyu, Dr. Tinojungshi Chang, who chaired the programme informed that the district administration will provide support and cooperation in dealing with drug menace in the district.
He therefore requested the participants to not take law into their hands but report it to the concern authority in the event of any incident related to drug use so that law will take its own course of action as befitted.


DC also further encouraged the people of Terogvunyu to continue organise these kinds of initiatives.
Also speaking at the programme, project manager of Kripa foundation, Renbonthung Tungoe, spoke on addiction and how it affects mental, physical and spiritual health of a person.


Director of Kripa foundation, Abou Mere, talked on the various problems associated with drug use socially, physically, mentally and spiritually which should be treated as a normal behaviour.
He informed the participants that it was everyone duty to focus on how to reduce the demand of drug use by initiating programs such as detox camps, inclusion of primary prevention programs in the church calendars, referring them treatment and rehabilitation programs and so on.


Neidonuo Angami, the first general secretary of Naga Mothers Association (NMA), who is also a Padmashree awardee shared about how initially when drug use became prominent in the state in the mid 80s, and how NMA took initiatives as a mother’s organisation to fight against the menace. She also shared some of her experience of how the first treatment program was brought to Nagaland spearheaded by NMA along with Kripa foundation.


The program concluded with vote of thanks by Daniel Tep, chairman of Terogvunyu village and benediction by pastor Kenyüyhun Tep of Henbenji Baptist church.
