IUN organizes seminar-cum-book release

Two-day national seminar on the role of skills and talent development in national economy commenced Tuesday, at ICFAI University Nagaland (IUN) auditorium, Sovima Dimapur followed by release of the book “Talent &skills: developing the art”. The programme was organized by IUN, department of management studies and sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)-NERC. 
Speaking at the programme as chief guest, Indian council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) National research centre on Mithun, director Dr. Abhijit Mitra mentioned that skill and knowledge were interrelated saying that  skill without knowledge would be of less use.
He pointed out that people differed in skill and talent. Many people argue talent is inherited, but he believed that talent could be acquired and can be achieved as skill. “Life is a learning process that includes certain tools such as school and institutions” thereby, he encouraged the participants to learn from the experiences by being part of the tools, to feel and remain blessed, to be happy, to work hard, to stay focus and to learn from the mistakes of others. 
Delivering keynote address, guest of honour Lt. Gen Dr. SP Kochhar (Rtd) AVSM, SM, VSM, CEO, telecom sector skill council and former signal officer in chief Indian army, while lauding the Indian education system, said it has been modelled, natured and is the best policy therefore young minds should be able to learn to implement the policy that has been created, he added. Relating knowledge with skills, he said that whoever had been able to relate the two would do better in the days too. He also divided skills and talent into three parts namely education with skills, skills with knowledge and artist in the skills. 
He also encouraged the young Naga minds to make a mark for themselves in the world with their talent and intellect. He further informed about starting skill centre institution in the days to come. 
Meanwhile, book on “Talent & skills: developing the art” authored by IUN, former vice chancellor Col. Dr. VRK Prasad and foreword by Rensis Likert professor of business, university of Michigan and partner, The PBL group USA, Professor Dave Ulrich was released in the presence of chief guest, guest of honour and IUN vice chancellor, Charles P Alexander.
Author shared his experience of writing the book which he said was a herculean task started in 2012 and finished in 2017. It’s the 11th book of the author. The book talks about entrepreneurship and how to develop one’s talent and skill.
Earlier the programme was chaired by IUN department of management studies, assistant professor Vindhya Sagar, invocation was pronounced by IUN department of English, assistant professor Dr. Longchanaro Longkumer, welcome address was delivered by IUN vice chancellor, professor Charles P Alexander and later vote of thanks was delivered by controller of exams VT Vasagan.
