UNTABA pushes for amendment to Nagaland Act

United Naga Tribes Association on Border Areas (UNTABA) on Sunday demanded that the state government adopt a resolution in the next Assembly session (from March 21), seeking Parliament to amend Section 3 and 4 of the State of Nagaland Act, 1962.
In this regard, UNTABA chairman, Hukavi T. Yeputhomi said a memorandum was submitted to the state government on July 8, 2016 pointing out several suggestions which could be adopted by the NLA, in order to resolve the protracted boundary issue between the governments of Nagaland and Assam.
When contacted Hukavi told Nagaland Post that till date the issue was not taken up for discussion in the Assembly. Therefore, Hukavi hoped that government under the new leadership of Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsü would take up the issue during the coming NLA session. UNTABA also asked the state government to pursue the implementation of points No. 12 & 13 of the ‘16 Points Agreement’ of 1960 so as to amalgamate the traditional and historical Naga lands in Assam to the present State of Nagaland.
In an effort to resolve the vexed boundary issue between Nagaland and Assam, UNTABA had conducted extensive consultation with all state holders including Central and State leaders, other agencies, legal luminaries and had even attended the last consultative meetings called by the government on many occasions.
Not only these, it also conducted extensive campaign with the State government including chief minister, members of the cabinets, Members of the Parliament, chairman DAN and president NPF of the previous Government, but no action has been initiated by the government.
