Deptt of Sociology, St. Joseph’s College (A) celebrates 6th Social Engineer’s Fiesta

The Department of Sociology, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, held its 6th Social Engineer’s Fiesta on October 18, at the College Indoor Stadium on the theme, “Celebrating Diversity: Sharing Our Identities and Our Stories”. The event was graced by joint secretary, School Education, Government of Nagaland, Avelu Ruho as the guest speaker.


The programme was packed with an array of engaging activities- including extempore speech, an Up-Cycle Fashion contest, rap song, dance, photography and the first ever Mr. and Miss Sociologist competition.
In Extempore Speech, the first position was bagged by Chanreiwungphi P. Shatsang (3rd semester, PG) and 2nd position by Nsungbeni M. Ezung (5th semester, UG).


In Up-cycle Fashion contest, 1st position by Moamerenla Pongen (3rd semester, PG) and 2nd position by Freda Lohe (5th semester, UG).
In Photography competition, 1st Position by Venu Tunyi (5th semester, UG) and 2nd position by Aluonuo Kharütso (3rd semester, PG).


For Mr and Miss Sociologist 2023, – Mr Sociologist 2023, by B Moiba Phom (3rd semester, UG) and 1st runners-up was Along K. Jamir. While Miss Sociologist 2023 title was bagged by Mesuvieo Ladu (3rd semester, UG), and 1st runners-up by Kethoshenu Khazo (3rd semester, UG).


Femina Miss India Nagaland 2023, Ezhotuo Keyho and Mega Mister Northeast 2023, Vihuzo Kense, were the guest judges for the first ever Mr. & Miss Sociologist 2023. The famous cosplayer and designer from Nagaland, who goes by the stage name ‘The Cosplay Monster’ was the guest judge for the Up-cycle Fashion contest. Kepozo Kapüh, the winner of Nagaland Hip Hop Inception 2021, who also goes by the stage name ‘Poz Poz’ was the guest artiste who gave a special rap performance.


The guest speaker, Avelu Ruho, provided a comprehensive overview of cultural identities and also mentioned the rich values and diversity of Naga culture. She emphasized that the influence of Western culture on their society has been underestimated and advised the present generation to preserve and stay connected to their cultural roots.


The performers dazzled the audience with their breathtaking costumes, mesmerizing choreography, and remarkable talents. The event not only brought the attendees together but also raised awareness about the pivotal role played by cultural diversity in shaping society, personal development, and fostering creativity.
