Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Niuland organized “Mahila Kisan Diwas” under the theme “Sustainable Agriculture through Gender Inclusion & Participation” on October 19 at DAO Office Niuland.
Project director & DAO, ATMA Niuland, Neiku Tsido, welcomed the speakers and participants and gave introductory remarks. Guest of honour EAC, Niuland Kelengunuo Solo, spoke on strategic approach for achieving gender equality and empowerment. She also gave an overall picture about the issues of Naga women in agriculture and some mitigation strategies.
Two progressive women farmers namely Hosuli Yeptho and Ilika Sumi, were awarded with a certificate and cash for their outstanding performance in the field of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture.
The resource person of the programme Block Technology Manager, Aghunaqa Block Vinatoli, Yeptho, delivered a detailed lecture on “Potential opportunities for winter crops”.
Later, vote of thanks was delivered by deputy project director, Avitoli K Yeptho, who encouraged the women farmers to take up kitchen gardening to become self-sustained for themselves and their family.
The program ended successfully with fruitful discussions and deliberations on the need of equality, equity and empowerment through entrepreneurship of women and also few winter seeds were distributed to the participants. A total of 16 women farmers participated in the programme.
