DMC seeks support to ensure cleaner, greener Dimapur

Staff Reporter

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) administrator W Manpai Phom has appealed to all residents of the city to rally behind the council’s efforts to elevate the cleanliness standards. Speaking to Nagaland Post, Manpai claimed that the state government and DMC had embarked on a comprehensive initiative to lift Dimapur’s hygiene standards, disclosing that numerous cleanliness drives and drainage cleaning had been initiated, reflecting the commitment of the authorities towards the cause.

He cited disposal of waste into drainage systems as a pivotal factor contributing to the recurrent flood situations that plagued the city. In light of this, he emphasised that individual responsibility was paramount in addressing the pressing issue and appealed citizens to refrain from discarding waste into drains, and instead actively engage in preserving cleanliness in their surroundings.

Highlighting the gravity of the challenge posed by clogged drains, Manpai also underscored the importance of collective action from every conscious citizen of Dimapur and gave a clarion call for unity and shared responsibility, in the collective pursuit of cleaner and more environmentally-conscious city.

Referring to waste segregation, he highlighted the role of households in the process, adding that such practices directly impacted the working conditions and health of sanitation workers.

The DMC administrator further appealed all residents to unite in the council’s efforts to transform Dimapur into a city that exemplified cleanliness and environmental stewardship. He expressed optimism that the appeal would resonate among the residents to ensure a future where issues surrounding garbage, plastic waste, and obstructed drainage would be consigned to the annals of history.

“The problems of garbage, plastic waste, and blocked drainage will become a thing of the past if we all come together and strive for a better, cleaner Dimapur,” he remarked.

Manpai informed this reporter that proposals for construction of drains and culverts in the city were being taken up by the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department, though no further details were divulged.
