Section 144 CrPC clamped in Dimapur

In view of the volatile situation in Dimapur district, Dimapur Commissioner of Police (CP) has promulgated 144 Cr.PC prohibiting assembly of five or more persons in public places with effect from January 31, 8 p.m. till further notice. This was in addition to the earlier order (Section 144A) put in place in Dimapur restricting individuals moving about with any kind of arms/lethal weapons.
In an order, CP Liremo Lotha said the “situation has risen which justifies and calls for immediate action to be taken to prevent breach of peace”. It has been made to appear that some individuals/groups and organizations were likely to create trouble thereby causing disturbance of public peace and tranquillity, endangering life and property in the areas within Dimapur town upto to Chumukedima.
