Rs 533 crore approved for NFMP

To implement the Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), Rs. 533 crore has been approved. 
This approval comes days after the Nagaland governor, PB Acharya, announced on Republic Day function about the department of environment, forest and climate change in the final stages of signing a loan agreement under the overseas development assistance of JICA.
The approval was made after the Minutes of Discussions (MD) on NFMP was examined at a meeting convened by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, on January 30, 2017 in New Delhi. 
The meeting was attended by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India, Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Nagaland.
The Minutes of Discussions (MD) was signed by Kyosuke Inada for JICA; S. Elamurugannan, AIGF for Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India and on behalf of Government of Nagaland by Lhoubeilatuo Kire, Principal Secretary to Government of Nagaland, Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Nagaland, and I. Panger Jamir, IFS, PCCF & HOFF.
The proposed project, which is to be implemented over a period of 10 years, seeks to improve forest ecosystem and support income generation by rehabilitation of jhum area and provision of livelihood support, thereby contributing to sustainable forest and environmental conservation and livelihood improvement in the target villages in Nagaland.
