Li-Ning 45th NSMOBC 2023 commences

Li-Ning 45th Nagaland State Masters Open Badminton Championship (NSMOBC) 2023 commenced at the DBC Indoor Stadium here on Thursday marking the Nagaland Badminton Association (NBA) golden jubilee celebration.


Speaking at the inaugural programme, Dimapur Urban Council Chairman federation (DUCCF) president, Zasivikho Zakiesato, lauded the Dimapur District Badminton Association (DDBA) for organizing the “undoubtedly one of the largest badminton tournaments” boasting participation from over 100 teams.


He acknowledged the participants in the Masters tournament, ranging from 35 to 60 years, commending their commitment to maintaining physical fitness.
Reminding of the global dominance of Asians in the sport, Zakiesato urged everyone present to commit to promoting the beautiful game to the younger generation.

Addressing challenges faced by youngsters in meeting high standards of the game, Zakiesato emphasized the need for collective efforts to influence and encourage them. He also stressed on the importance of balancing health and fitness in middle age and actively involving younger generations in the sport.


Praising Dimapur for setting high standards in various disciplines, Zakiesato called for coordinated efforts to uphold the spirit of competition.


He extended best wishes to the organizers, match officials, and players for the tournament.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DDBA vice president, Felix Yepthomi, invocation offered by pastor, Dr Bendang and welcome address by DDBA treasurer, Alem Pongen.


The championship, featuring 118 teams from 11 districts and Nagaland police, would witness fierce competition across various age categories, including 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, and 60+, in the Men’s Doubles and Singles events with a total prize money of Rs. 8.52 lakh.
