Nagaland NewsAPO advisory board on ULB reservation issue

APO advisory board on ULB reservation issue

A nine-member APO Advisory Body has said the issue of reservation of women in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) has created “highly-charged emotions” as Naga society which was emerging from its traditional past “is responding to an issue never faced before”.
The APO Advisory Body also noted the “divergent stands” taken by the government and women on one side and the apex tribe organisations on the other, which nearly caused a “confrontation on January 7 and 9” but which was averted due to “wise restraint and far-sighted responsibility” shown by the conflicting parties. In this regard, the APO Advisory Body expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the crisis, for “preventing the worst from happening”.
Joining all others who were trying to work out solution to the pressing problem , the Advisory Body maintained that such solution “ must not be beyond the combined wisdom, genius and will of the Nagas. “
On women, the Advisory Body said it was indisputable that they (women) were the better half of society and the different positions on women reservation, viewed from history were understood and respected.
Further the Advisory Body acknowledged as a fact that the vital role women “can and must play for the proper growth of the Naga nation” has not impinged on the consciousness of the “other half” of society.
In the search for solution on women reservation, they said the future would demand an increasing urgency from the present and acknowledgement of failure in this must be taken on board.
The Advisory Body reiterated that if future imperatives and realities guide the present over the past ways and attitudes, then all would succeed better together with the most powerful idea being “what is right is best for all” .
The statement was issued by the following APO Advisory Board members: Vipralhou Kesiezie – convener; Zeneituo Yano – Secretary; members- Dr Dietho-o Yhoshü, Dr Seyiekietuo Ziephrü, Ketholeho Kulnu, Krurovi Peseyie, Rovigwelhu Chüsi, Niketu Iralu and Abi Yalie.
