Newborn care week observed in Mon

Newborn care week was observed at Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) District Hospital Mon on November 16, under the theme “Nurturing Newborn Lives Through Community – Facility Engagement’. A press release from media officer, NHM Mon Leeyan Chemshy, informed that at the programme, DPO (UIP &RCH) Dr. Wungyong explained about the week, which would be from November 15 to 21.

He said the nurses of the health units and the ASHAs in the villages besides conducting follow-up or routine home visits to newborns, additional follow up visits would be conducted especially to vulnerable groups such as high-risk mothers and newborn with danger signs, tracking of Preterm and Low birth weight, strengthening fear around birth services, promotion of early initiation & exclusive breastfeeding and promotion of healthy behavioural practices.


He also emphasized on the importance of breastfeeding and vaccination to the mothers present at the event. While taking rounds and visiting the new born care unit & postnatal care unit at the DH Mon, the newborns were gifted with presents in commemoration of the day, briefing each family about the week and that they play an important role in the transformation needed for every newborn to make the best start in their life.

The programme was attended by DPO (UIP&RCH) Dr. Wungyong, Pediatrician DH Dr. Chimang Paul, DVBO Dr Abenthung Murry, Gynaecologist DH Dr. Aman, DPM Moie Bonnie Konyak, nurses and the mothers.
