Naga filmmakers receive accolades at 10th Samvaad

Two Naga filmmakers, Chentei Khiamniungan and Vito Sumi, received accolades on Saturday at the ongoing 10th edition of Samvaad, a five-day tribal conclave in Jamshedpur.


Chentei from Kohima won the second position in “Samuday Ke Saath National Short Film competition”. He also received the “Popular Mention” for his film “Just Like Our Grandmother” in the “Institutional Category”.


Vito also received “Special Jury Mention” for his film, “Sound From The Hallow Bamboo” in the “Institutional Category”. About the films: “Just Like Our Grandmothers”, is a film that take you through the journey of the last of weavers from Khiamniungan Tribe.

Chentai said the motive behind the film was to encourage young generation to respect and preserve this dying practice. At the same time, he said the film also attempts to encourage the youth to seriously take up weaving as a profession as it could be not only become an alternative source of income but also preserve the age-long culture and tradition.


“Sound From The Hallow”, is a story about a folk singer who is trying to re-invent and restore the dying folk songs of the Sümis.
