Two persons were killed when a truck turned turtle and smashed into a Tata Sumo at Burma Camp here on Monday morning.
According to DCP (Crime) and PRO, Dimapur, the police control room received an information around 8.30 am on Monday that an accident had occurred at Burma Camp.
Accordingly, a police party rushed to the site near Evok Furniture Store at Burma Camp and ascertained that one truck (NL01G – 1960) turned turtle and smashed into a Tata Sumo (AS01T – 3669).
PRO said that the driver Vikivi H Awomi (27), s/o Hokhai Awomi and one occupant– Peaka Awomi (23), s/o late Kaito Awomi were found dead and trapped inside the Sumo. The driver of the truck, which was loaded with potato and was proceeding towards Imphal, fled from the spot. The Tata Sumo was coming from the opposite direction.
The bodies were handed over to their family members upon their refusal for post mortem after observing all necessary legal formalities. A case had been registered under relevant provisions of law and further investigation was on.
