Yakor Students’ Union celebrates golden jubilee

Yakor Students’ Union (YSU) celebrated its golden jubilee on December 27 and 28 under the theme “Honor, peace & prosperity” with parliamentary secretary of Municipal Affairs, Economics & Statistics R. Tohanba, as chief guest. Speaking at the programme, chief guest in his speech briefed about the history of the village which is said to have started way back in 18 century. He pointed out that the celebration of the golden jubilee was linked with the first educational institution at Molungyimsen under Mokokchung district in 1878 from where education spread throughout Nagaland. “The citizens of Yakor received education in 1950 and this very union was formed during that period,” said Tohanba adding; “the celebration of golden jubilee also commemorates the past, present event and seeking of blessing in the days to come.”
Tohanba emphasized the need of peace and respect among neighbours for all round development in the area as well as for the true meaning of harmonious coexistence to be fully understood. He further urged upon the students’ community to set a goal and work hard towards achieving it and also encouraged them to be responsible citizens of the state.
