NPF, BJP unit appeal tribal bodies to allow civic body elections

In a last minute move, the NPF and state BJP state unit of the ruling DAN government on Sunday issued a joint statement urging all organizations opposed to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) poll to pave way for smooth conduct of elections and to allow candidates to file their nominations on January 9.
In a press note, CMO media cell informed that both NPF and BJP issued the statement after an all-party emergency meeting was convened by chief minister, T.R. Zeliang at his residential office on Sunday evening– to seek the opinion of various political parties in the state in the backdrop of various tribal organizations boycotting the elections to the Municipal and Town Councils 
The meeting was attended by NPF president Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, Rajya Sabha MP & NPF secretary general, KG Kenye; NPF working president, Apong Pongener, BJP unit president, Visasolie Lhoungu; BJP vice president, Imsu Yaden and general secretary Eduzu Theluo; NPCC general secretary, Medokul Sophie and secretary Moa Imchen and Home minister Y. Patton. 
The house discussed how Article 243T of the Constitution of India relating to women reservation in local bodies did not affect article 371A, CMO stated. After the discussions, CMO media cell said both NPF and BJP decided issue a joint statement.
