PWD (R&B) minister G Kaito Aye visited the ongoing Central Roads Fund (CRF) Suruhuto to Asukhomi project on Wednesday along with departmental officers.
The objective of the visit was to understand the situation on the ground and review measures for early completion of the project. The Suruhuto-to-Asukhomi road is the shortest road connecting Suruhuto assembly constituency, Aghunato assembly constituency and Eastern Naga areas with Zunheboto district. Black topping work has begun from Suruhuto side.
The minister directed the officials and contractor undertaking the construction to mobilise and deploy more manpower and machineries for completion of the work by December 2023, as assured by the state to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Observing that almost all ongoing projects were at least half-a-decade or decade old, he cautioned that unless utilisation certificates were submitted to MoRTH, Nagaland would not get funds for more projects, adding that the only option now was foreclosure of stagnant projects. He would be visiting all incomplete or ongoing central-sponsored road projects to ensure that these were completed on time and the state did not lose out on necessary funding.
PWD (R&B) chief engineer Kevide Nakhro, additional chief engineer Swarai Meru, Zunheboto circle superintending engineer M Hotokhu Achumi, Zunheboto executive engineer Hekuto, Atoizu executive engineer Dr Khuito Murumi and other technical staff of PWD (R&B) Atoizu division, besides representatives of Suruhuto Area Public Organisation and GB Association Suruhuto Area were present. The project was awarded to M/s Naga Construction in July 2018.
The chief engineer, additional chief engineer, executive engineer and technical staff also visited the ongoing CRF project under which the road from Naghuto (New) to Pukhobokita (Coco Doyang Road) is being upgraded.
The work is also being executed by M/s Naga Construction since June 2018. Instructions had been given for quality workmanship and work execution as per specifications for both projects and for completion of the work within this dry season. This was stated in a press release.
