In an operation at Chumukedima Town on January 4, troops of 41 Assam Rifles (AR) along with police personnel apprehended one suspected NSCN (I-M) member identified as ‘razuo peyu’ Meren Jamir (41) of NSCN (IM).
According to PRO IGAR (N), the operation was launched based on information regarding presence of an UG cadre carrying out extortion in Chumukedima Town.
Five extortion slip allegedly signed by Yashi Jamir, supervisor, Chumukedima Area, UT, NSCN/GPRN was recovered from the possession of the suspected NSCN (I-M) member.
In a similar operation on January 5 at Notun Basti, troops of 32 AR apprehended one alleged arms dealer identified as O. Meren Ao (39).
PRO IGAR (N) informed that one Pt 22 mm Pistol (country made) was recovered from his possession. Both the accused along with the seized items were handed over to the police, PRO added.
