Intl Day for PwDs observed

District Level Committee for Persons with Disabilities Dimapur (DLCPDD), in collaboration with Exodus Disabled People’s Organization Dimapur (EDPOD), observed the International Day for Persons with Disabilities at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) chapel hall on Saturday.


Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, also the chairperson of the district level committee for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), commended the organizers for recognizing and celebrating the talents of 87 PwDs from Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Nuiland districts.


Dr. Chang emphasized that everyone has their own unique abilities and encouraged PwDs to embrace their talents boldly. Acknowledging the imperfections in everyone, he urged against feeling disheartened and emphasized the need to spread awareness about the inclusion of PwDs in society. Dr. Chang highlighted central ministry welfare schemes for PwDs and assured support from the district administration, pledging efforts to address their needs.


The event featured welcome and keynote addresses by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Limatula Aier, an invocation prayer by DHD chaplain Rev Yhunlo Thong, and performances by PwDs.
Short speeches were delivered by various representatives, including Assistant Director of Employment Dr. T Mohan, a student from Deaf Biblical Ministry, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority representative Sangto Longchar, Exodus President Rongsen Jamir, and Prodigals Home Director K Ela.


Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner assured continued efforts from the district administration to support and address the needs of PwDs, emphasizing the importance of equal opportunities and love without discrimination.


Angel’s Home Signal Angami also celebrated the International Day of People with Disability graced by chairperson CWC, Dimapur, Moamenla Yaden as the chief guest.


Yaden emphasized the United Nations’ initiative to promote inclusivity for persons with disabilities, particularly in the Naga context. Stressing the role of a nurturing environment at home, she highlighted the importance of integrating disabled individuals, citing examples like Helen Keller and Nick Vujicic.


Yaden further urged the society, stakeholders, and media to be advocates for the voiceless echoed the significance of united action to achieve Sustainable Development Goals for persons with disabilities.


The event featured performances by children, including dances and skits and a short speech by Bendangmenla. Earlier, the program chaired by Asen began with an invocation by Fr. Chacko John.
