Angami Sports Association (ASA) in association with World Alysh Federation and All India Traditional Wrestling and Pankration Federation (AITWPF) organised a one day training for wrestlers at Hockey ground, IG Stadium, here on Saturday.
Two wrestlers and one wrestling coach from Kyrgyzstan imparted wrestling training to local youths during the training session. The trainers from Kyrgyzstan included head coach of the World Alysh Federation, Kanybek Shaidillaevich Abytov; Kyrgyzstan Wrestlers, Nursultan Bochonov and Kadyr Kelsinbekov.
Delivering the welcome address, ASA President, Lhoubeizo Mere Kesiyie, said that the aim of the camp was to bring international wrestlers to the state to train young Naga wrestlers and inspire them to take interest in becoming professional belt wrestlers, particularly in the Alysh style.
He emphasised that now was an opportuned moment to intensify training efforts to match the caliber of international competitors. Senior VP, AITWPF and vice president Asian Belbogli Kurash Confederation, Chandpasha Ahemadhusen Tamboli, while addressing the players, informed that the Alysh style wrestling originated from Kyrgyzstan, a very similar style to Naga wrestling.
He hoped that the coaching camp would produce good wrestlers in belt wrestling.
Naga Wrestling Association (NWA) president Hiabe Zeliang recalled how belt wrestling did not take time to captivate the hearts of the Nagas as it was similar to the Naga style wrestling.
He lauded ASA for extending invitation to all affiliated units of NWA to participate at the training camp. The programme was chaired by Angami Sports Association vice president Viketuzo Meyase. ASA GS Seyielhouvi proposed the vote of thanks.
