The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate Wangpang Konyak won the by-election to the Tapi Assembly constituency as counting was held on Sunday, office of the Chief Electoral Officer informed.
Wanpang defeated Congress candidate Wanglem Konyak by a margin of 5333 votes. Wanpang secured 10053 votes while Wanglem got 4720 votes.
The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of NDPP legislator Noke Wangnao on August 28.
Meanwhile, chief minister Neiphiu Rio, Congress and the BJP congratulated Wanpang for the by-election victory. In a post on ‘X’, chief minister Rio congratulated Wangpang Konyak on winning the by-election for 43-Tapi A/C. “I wish him the best in serving his constituents and the people of Nagaland. I also congratulate the party workers and well-wishers,” Rio said.
NPCC: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee congratulated and extended deep gratitude to the electorate of 43 Tapi assembly constituency for enthusiastically exercising their electoral mandate during the just concluded bye election.
The party congratulated NDPP candidate and MLA elect Wangpang Konyak, and wished him a successful term in the service of his constituents.
NPCC also congratulated Wanglem Konyak, INC candidate, for having ran a spirited and graceful campaign. He may have come up short in the vote count, but he has won the hearts of many, NPCC said.
The party wholeheartedly thanked the rank and file of Congress family in the state, as well as AICC leaders involved in the campaign, for their unwavering and unstinting effort at upholding the candidature of the Congress party.
BJP: State BJP president Benjamin Yepthomi also congratulated Wangpang Konyak for his significant achievement at 43 Tapi assembly bypoll.
He thanked all the supporters and well-wishers for their unwavering faith in the PDA alliance partnership. This win is a testament to the great leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy CM Y Patton and deputy CM TR Zeliang.
