Parliamentary secretary of Justice & Law and SIRD, Er. Picto Shohe on January 5 graced the 40th general conference of Atoizu Range Students’ Union (ARSU) at Emlomi village as the chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, Er. Picto Shohe said, “I come here as a servant of the public and my aim is to develop Atoizu area” and appealed the public to come together and strive for uplift of the area.
Er. Picto said that one of his main objectives was to work for the progress of Atoizu area and that he was a servant of the public rather than a leader.
The local MLA said he was trying to further connectivity among the villages through construction of roads and bridges, many of which were ongoing while some work would start this year.
He appealed the leaders and public of the area to extend their support and cooperation in such developmental works.
To the leaders he urged them to introspect deep within themselves and be rooted in the word of God. He drew references from Colossians 2:3 and Matthew 5:4 from the Bible while encouraging the gathering to be the salt of the earth.
Er. Picto advised them not to merely attend the programmes but to learn new things during such gatherings and be benefitted. He also encouraged them to foster brotherhood and unity and work towards the progress of the area.
On the inaugural day, various participating units from Atoizu range competed in traditional couple wear, folk dance and song, traditional fire making.
The 40th ARSU general conference is being held under the theme, “Indomitable Spirit” and hosted by Emlo Students’ Union. The conference would culminate on January 7.
Earlier on January 4, SDO soil of Mangkolemba, Mokokchung district Yetotho Swu was the speaker during the introductory session.
Speaker stressed on the importance of how student should be self-sustained and not fully dependent on government job as the only source. He also encouraged students to have proper aim in life for tomorrow’s development.
SKK general secretary, Vikai Yeptho spoke on SKK mission “Doing Right”. He said that this was a challenging sacrifice and added that every individual must bring change. He said that Atoizu area was among the highest paid for vote and reasoned that if the same amount of money was spent on development, the area would have been the best sub-division in Nagaland. He challenged the present generation and encouraged them to overcome the obstacles and bring change for the district and state in general.
