Former minister SK Sangtam, passed away at a private hospital in Dimapur on December 7, 2023 after a prolonged illness.
SK Sangtam, a four-time MLA representing 52 Longkhim-Chare assembly constituency, served the state as minister in-charge of PWD, economics & statistics and legal metrology in 1989 and as cabinet minister in-charge of health & family welfare in the JLP ministry in 1990.
State chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer and deputy chief minister Y Patton have expressed grief at the passing of former minister. In a condolence message to Mrs. Adaline Sangtam, the chief minister Neiphiu Rio described late Sangtam as an enthusiastic and passionate leader who served the society in different capacities since his youth.
Rio recalled that they worked together from 1989 to 2002, and he found him to be a selfless person, who always worked for the welfare of the people, especially those from the marginalised section.
“His demise has created a vacuum, which will be difficult to fill,” Rio said, adding it was indeed a great loss for the Naga society in general and Sangtam community in particular.
The chief minister conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that God Almighty grant them solace and courage to bear this irreparable loss.
NLA speaker: Expressed grief over the demise of former minister SK Sangtam, the NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer stated that late SK Sangtam’s dedication and contributions to his community and to the people of the State would be remembered with respect, adding that the legacy would continue to inspire all.
On behalf of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the speaker conveyed deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences and prayed that Almighty grant the fortitude to the loved ones and the bereaved family as they go through this difficult time.
Dy. CM: State deputy chief minister Y. Patton also expressed sadness at the demise of former minister SK Sangtam.
In a condolence message, Patton stated that late Sangtam’s service and dedication to the people were exemplary, adding that his legacy of commitment and integrity would continue to inspire Naga people. Patton also said his passing away at this juncture was a great loss for the Nagas.
On behalf of the state BJP legislators, Patton extended deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
