Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder observed in Kiphire

District Health Society Kiphire commemorated Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder (GIDD) Prevention Day at Amahator village, Kiphire in October in the presence of church leaders, women and youth group.
In a press note by district media officer, Kiphire Imnasenla Pongener, launching of GIDD programme was conducted by CMO, Dr. C. Tsenthungo Patton, deputy CMO Dr. Tinurenla Anichari, DTO Dr. Khelito Zhimomi and NHM staff who briefly spoke on Iodine Deficiency Disorder, symptoms of iodine deficiency and the importance of consumption of iodised salt.
Other resource persons during the programme were RCH-UIP DPO Dr. Rebecca Y. Sema, MO Dr. Holi Anar, MO Dr. Menang, DPM Ahieto Tase and BEE Setsao Sangtam.
Following the launch, a weeklong health education activities such as awareness talk, essay competition, painting competition on the theme ‘Eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders; consume only iodised salt’ were conducted at various schools in Amahator, Longmatra, Seyochung, Pungro and Kiphire villages.
The winners of the competition were awarded certificates and cash prizes.
