Phek District Maytas-Gayatri Damaged Victim Association (PDMGDVA) on Saturday lunched phase-wise agitation by imposing 12-hour road blockade along two-lane Chakhabama-Zunheboto road and two-lane Pfutsero-Phek road.
In a press release, PDMGDVA convener Pushovoyi Nyekha and general secretary Kuvesa Medeo informed that braving cold weather thousands of its members from all 22 affected villages/towns marched along the two 2-lane roads in Phek district in protest against delaying timely release of damaged compensation by the state government. The protestors raised slogans and questioned the “non-committal attitude” of the state government.
Despite resentment from the members, PDMGDVA said the agitation went off peacefully without any untoward incident.
As announced earlier, the association informed that there would be no blockade on Sunday (December 10).
However, it said that second phase agitation of 48-hour road blockade would be imposed on December 11 and 12 if the state government failed to provide positive response.
The association cautioned that third phase of agitation would be announced as and when required.
Meanwhile, PDMGDVA has appreciated its members for extending cooperation and support towards the success of first phase of agitation. It also expressed gratitude to the general public for extending their solidarity.
PDMGDVA stated that exemption of certain categories of vehicular movement as notified earlier would remain unchanged till further notification.
