The state BJP organised a dharna against the purported rampant corruption within the Congress-led INDIA bloc. The demonstration was prompted by the recent Income Tax Department’s raid, leading to recovery of more than Rs 350 crore in cash from Congress Rajya Sabha member Dhiraj Sahu’s premises in Jharkhand.
Starting from Thahekhu Tower and progressing towards Marwari Patti, the dharna drew participation from approximately 200 to 300 BJP workers, all expressing their discontent with the alleged corruption.
Addressing the gathering, State BJP president Benjamin Yepthomi alleged that the Congress stood for corruption. He questioned whose money it was, and whether it belonged to Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, or the party.
He asserted that corruption was intolerable and urged the Central government to take swift action in this regard, while also questioning the Congress’s silence on the issue.
He said the dharna was held to express resentment against the rampant corruption in the Congress and the INDIA fold, who had been consistently opposing the Narendra Modi government. However, he pointed out that the truth was now out in the open for the people to see and judge for themselves.
Meanwhile, state BJP chief spokesperson Thomas Magh reiterated the party’s commitment to Prime Minister’s call for a corruption-free nation.
He said it was the duty of every citizen to raise his or her voice against a party or coalition of parties from whose member’s house more than Rs 350 crore in cash had been recovered.
He clarified that the BJP was not interested in false propaganda, but believed in its duty to speak out against corruption.
He appealed all responsible citizens to raise their voice against the menace of corruption in the country.
Highlighting the scrutiny process for Rajya Sabha members, BJP spokesperson Abhay explained that members to the Lok Sabha were elected by the general public, while Rajya Sabha members were elected by legislators after proper scrutiny.
He questioned the Congress’s vetting process, wondering how the party carried out its scrutiny when it elected a representative who indulged in liquor business.
The participants carried placards that read “Corruption Ki Dukan”, “Masters of unaccounted stashed cash”, “Down with Jharkhand Congress RS MP Dhiraj Sahu”, etc, during the dharna.
They also raised slogans such as “Congress Down Down”, “Rahul Gandhi Down Down”, etc.
