National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) chairman Ma. Venkatesan on December 16 held a meeting at Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, Peren. In his keynote address, DC Peren Vineet Kumar said that this Safai Karamcharis were persons engaged for any sanitation work and includes their dependents.
DC said that the Mission of safai karamcharis was to strive for elimination of inhumane practice of manual scavenging and social economic upliftment of the karamcharis and their dependents/ sanitation workers. Responding to NCSK chairman on the issue of wages, DC said that wages of the employees were adjusted from the town council revenue on fixed pay basis and the workers are issued items such as hand gloves, masks and jacket for their safety at their workplace.
