National Farmers’ Day (Kisan Diwas) was celebrated on December 23, at the conference hall of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur, ICAR (RC) for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre. A press release by KVK Dimapur, informed that Kisan Diwas, which is also celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the fifth Prime Minister of India, was observed to pay respect to farmers and glorify them as backbone of the country.
At the programme, four farmers and farm women were given certificates and inputs in recognition to the significant contribution to agriculture. Kheto Sema of Toshiho, for paddy seed production, Zaren Michael of Kupuhe, for integrated farming system, Kevizasenuo Kera of New Chümoukedima for piggery, and Tsunungbenla of Dimapur for mushroom production. They also shared their farming experiences with gathering.
Senior Scientist and Head, Dr. Phool Kumari, shared the importance of Kisan Diwas and appreciated the sincere and hard-working farmers without whom food, nutrition and livelihood security cannot be achieved. The programme was chaired by ACTO (Plant Breeding), Dr. Bendangla Imsong and a total of 25 participants attended the programme.
