Tesophenyu Village Youth Fraternity (TVYF) organized its first general body session on December 27 at Tesophenyu Community Hall under the theme, ‘My Village, My Responsibility’ with chairman, DPDB Tseminyu district, Ar.Jwenga Seb MLA, as special guest.
In his address, Seb said village was not about the physical space or a geographical location, however, but a reflection of “our” heritage, culture and identity.

In this regard, he said, it was everyone responsibility to preserve and enhance the beauty and essence of the village for generations to come. He termed youths as the torchbearers of change as they possessed the energy, passion and determination to bring about positive transformations in the society.
“It is in our hands to address the challenges our village faces, be it in the areas of education, healthcare, infrastructure, or environmental sustainability,” Seb said.
He further urged the gathered youths to volunteer their time and skills to mentor and tutor those in need, empowering them with knowledge and igniting their potential.
Seb also added that healthcare and infrastructure were critical aspects that demands attention.
“We must work towards establishing better healthcare facilities and infrastructure in our village, ensuring that no one is left behind due to lack of access to medical services.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by secretary, organising committee, Dr Gwazenlo Tep and invocation by chairman, TLKJ, Rev Wachulo Jemu.
Welcome note was delivered by convenor, organising committee, Er. Chengato Kath, while president, TVYF, Nyiwalo Jemu delivered the president’s address.
President, Rengma Selo-Zi, Kenneth Kath, delivered a solidarity speech while chairman, Tesophenyu village council, Sajukha Kath and president TGYO, A Levi Magh, delivered greetings.
A folk song was presented by JEK Welfare Society menfolk and Cecilia Seb presented a special song while ex officio member, TVYFK, David Magh, proposed the words of gratitude.
PSU: The 61st annual general conference of Phesama Students’ Union (PSU) was held at Phesema, Kohima on December 29.
Speaking at the conference, Assistant Professor, Patkai Christian College, Dr Thepfulhoukho Kuotsu, emphasized the significance of critical thinking in Naga society and said that the community was overly engrossed in events without delving into deeper reflections.
Dr. Kuotsu elaborated on the evolution of villages over the past few decades and implored students to step out of their comfort zones and actively contribute to the creation of ethos and legacy.
He also advised the students to identify their strengths and limitations and promote work culture and the dignity of labour.
The speaker also advocated for the protection and preservation of the ecosystem, advising against the exploitation of natural resources and called upon the student community, in particular, to be the voice of truth.
The programme was chaired by Vikuosalie Zashümo and Mhasikhoto Chuse delivered the presidential address.
Following the inaugural session, various literary events and competitions were organized for school children.
In the drawing competition, Uneitsono of Class A, Visabeino of Class 3, and Keletho of Class 4 secured the first, second and third positions in their respective categories. In the Spelling Bee for classes 6-8, Henry Viseto Zashümo claimed the first place, while Dezevino Zashümo emerged as first runner-up.
In Folk Story writing, Thejano Zashümo, Lozino Lucy Zashümo, and Zeneikhono secured the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, respectively.
The closing session was graced by Lhoushevikho Lhoushe, joint director department of Industries, as the resource person.
Mekokla SU: The 72nd annual session of Mekokla Students’ Union was held on December 27 at MSU office, Public Ground Mekokla Village. The session was graced by Eliyamo Yanthan, VDB secretary as special Invitee and P. B. Sen Yanthan as theme speaker.
The special invitee challenged the students to be responsible in all round development of the village.
He also urged them to be active in promoting peace and development in the village.
Speaking on the session, P. B. Sen Yanthan emphasised on the current situation in Mekokla Village under the theme “Enumero Conflab: the Current Context in Mekokla Village.”
He stressed on the importance of love and unity in the society. The session also included literary session which began with an invocation by James Yanthan, Catechist St. Paul Catholic Church. A prayer of blessing for the students was invoked by Rev. Dr. L. L. Kikon, pastor Mekokla Baptist Church and benediction by Bentsolo A. Kikon. The session observer was Enibemo Y. Lotha, former general secretary of MSU and vote of thanks was proposed by Lithüngbemo Kikon, general secretary of Mekokla Students’ Union.
