Crackdown on ‘Sunflower’ dealers

Staff Reporter

In a massive crackdown on drug pedlars across Dimapur, Police have arrested 18 ‘Sunflower’ dealers during the past fortnight, some from Guwahati and Senapati. In recent months, Dimapur police have seized around four kgs of Sunflower drugs.

According to police sources, the ‘Sunflower’ (Shan Flower) drug which is smuggled through Manipur from Myanmar is further adulterated with some synthetic drugs to triple the quantity and lower the price. Sources said a small sachet of the drug used to be sold for Rs.300 to Rs.500 some years back. It is proving to be very popular among school and college students.

Due to recent disturbances supplies from Myanmar has somewhat decreased and that had led to a huge price hike to Rs. 1500 per sachet. Since the demand has grown very large and the drug becoming slightly scarce, the price has more than five times to Rs.8000 per sachet. However due to the police crackdown, it appears there is total famine of Sunflower drug in Dimapur. Police are keeping a close look and are monitoring the situation.
