Training on scientific cultivation of kiwi

A training on the scientific cultivation of kiwi was organised by Sustainable Development Research Centre (SDRC) Chümoukedima on January 8 at Thipüzu Village under Phek district. A press release by SDRC Chümoukedima informed that the training was aimed at empowering farmers with scientific techniques and insights for optimal kiwi production.


SDRC said the training was conducted as part of the project titled, “Establishment of Kiwi orchard with elite planting materials in the north east India” funded by North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP) – North Eastern Couuncil (NEC), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), government of India.


Speaking at the training programme, SDRC chairman and director, Dr Mechüselie Kehie delved into a wide range of topics covering land preparation, plantation, trellis system, crop management, pruning, organic manures, harvesting, all tailored to maximize kiwi yields while maintaining sustainable practices.


During the training, Sevohu Khamu, an expert in Kiwi farming, delivered insightful opening remarks and led the interaction and discussion session emphasising the adoption of modern practices to enhance kiwi productivity.


The highlight of the programme was the hands-on field trial for pit digging employing the use of earth auger. The programme was chaired by Dr. Pelesakuo Kehie and invocation by Mhaseveyi Veyie. Altogether 53 participants and three officials attended the training.
