As part of the ongoing ten-day mega Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) at Saint Joseph University, Chümoukedima, a “weapons display” was organised by Assam Rifles for National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from schools and colleges across Nagaland, Thursday.
The CATC organised by 25 Nagaland Battalion NCC, Mokokchung under the aegis of NCC Group headquarters, Kohima has attracted a large number of NCC cadets from schools and colleges from all over Nagaland. The cadets, who have been trained in handling and shooting with the 0.22’ sporting rifle, were sensitised with detailed information about modern infantry weapons.
They were also trained to disarm and assemble weapons.
The cadets were oriented on several weapons to enhance their knowledge about several international and Indian made weapons. The Assam Rifles team explained about the capabilities and characteristics of the weapons. A career guidance lecture on opportunities and recruitment avenues in Armed Forces was delivered by an Assam Rifles officer.
The cadets, dressed in ceremonial regalia, also demonstrated a “guard of honour” in the “quarter guard” erected by the cadets in the camp site.
Speaking to media, camp adjutant, third officer Raju Thapa said the objective of CATC was to hone the skills of the cadets in PT, drill, weapon training, map reading, field craft, battle craft, cultural and other activities.
Senior under officer of the camp, Alongba O Longchar, while highlighting about their daily routine, acknowledged the 25 Nagaland battalion NCC for the opportunity.
Senior officer and camp senior, Liza R Achumi said various activities performed at the camp motivates and boost the confidence of the cadets. She also encouraged more youths to join NCC. It may be noted that the ongoing CATC marks the culmination of the yearlong institutional training.
