Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) has served an ultimatum on the department of school education to deploy required number of teachers in the government schools across the Yimkhiung jurisdictions within 14 days. YAA through its media cell cautioned that failure to fulfil its demand within the stipulate time, the union would take “drastic actions” to ensure that the demand was delivered, adding that in the process, should there be any unfortunate incidents, the department would solely be responsible.
The apex Yimkhiung student body stated that there was an acute shortage of teachers in government schools across the Yimkhiung jurisdiction paralysing the functioning of the schools and affecting the students’ pursuit of education.
YAA informed that in a representation to the principal director school education on June 30, 2023, it had appealed for deployment of required number of teachers in government established schools across the Yimkhiung jurisdiction.
It stated that the teachers required for deployment in the schools include as many as 64 primary teachers; 85 language teachers; 50 undergraduate Hindi teachers; graduate teacher—English (22), S.S/General (16), Mathematic (20) and Science (18)—and five post graduate teachers.
As the union did not receive response to its representation, YAA said a reminder petition was submitted on August 22, 2023. However, YAA said there had been “no realistic response” thus far. In light of the above, the YAA said it had submitted an ultimatum on January 18, 2024 to the principal director school education.
While anticipating for the department to address the issue of teacher shortage, YAA has cautioned that the admission for the current academic session would not be allowed to take place until adequate teachers were deployed in the schools.
In this regard, YAA has directed all its federating units to ensure that the admission process in schools within their respective area was totally restricted. Further, YAA warned that any individual or group attempting to “obstruct the collective endeavour” in any manner would be dealt with as per the law of the land.
