Wokha district administration ready to begin demolition drive

Correspondent

Wokha district administration has completed dispatching eviction letters and markings to start demolition drive on national highway (NH) 61. Disclosing this, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan told the Nagaland Post that the district administration was fully prepared for the demolition drive. He however stated that the operation was currently on hold as TTC Infrastructure Company was not providing the machineries to carry out the demolition drive. He mentioned that despite writing to the company, the latter cited safety of workers and machineries as the reason for the not providing support.

Consequently, he said it was necessary for the PWD (National Highway) to take appropriate action in the matter.
Notably, deputy chief minister TR Zeliang, minister in-charge for National Highways, had also inspected the ongoing road widening project of NH-61 from the stretch 72.40 to 83 km on December 5, 2023.
At the meeting, it was resolved that all structures on compensated land should be removed by the owners within a period of 10 days starting December 5, 2023.

In case an individual failed to do so, the meeting decided that the district administration would demolish the illegal structures.
The deputy chief minister also ordered the TTC Infrastructure Company to provide machineries to carry out the demolition drive.
