Fight against alcoholism, drugs at all cost: Khamo

Advisor of CAWD & Taxes, Kiidecho Khamo called upon the people to fight against alcoholism and drugs at all cost.
“Development is meaningless if its people are destroyed,” he said while addressing the 42nd General Session of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) as special guest at Chizami on January 24.

Talking on Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989, he said that the Act was enacted by Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) under the immense pressure from NBCC in particular due to the hazardous effect of health, money, life, broken families, creating widows & orphanage, public nuisance and many more.

However, he said, “we are failing to implement the law effectively because we are yet to implement the Act sincerely”.
“It will surely be affective and successful if there is a will,” Khamo said.
Noting that there were certain CSOs and individuals propagating for lifting the Act, he said “these lobbyists’ strong point is that the NLTPA has only caused revenue loss to the state’s exchequer.”

“As for me, I will continue support the Act at all cost so also the Chakhesang tribe will never support lifting of the Act,” he said.
On economic front, Khamo called for venturing into “Each family One project, Each family One entrepreneur and Each family One Prayer time.”

He said that no one or no forces should be allowed to destroy the bond of unity among the Chakhesangs.
He maintained that everything was possible when people are united.
Earlier, minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs K.G. Kenye also delivered short speech at the session while Neposo Theliio, IAS (Retd), member, Nagaland Public Service Commission was the guest speaker.

CPO president Veziihii Keyho delivered presidential address. Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN) president Kekhwengulo Lea shared greetings while Chakhesang Scholars Forum chairman Dr. Zavise Rume talked on educational project.

The programme was chaired by CPO vice president Ezekowe K. Tara while welcome speech was delivered by Chizami Village Council chairman Kewepelo Tsuha. CPO general secretary Chepetso Koza highlighted the activities of CPO for the current tenure while vote of thanks was proposed by CPO treasurer Rekha Rose Dukru.
